Perplexity, a cutting-edge AI research tool, recently brought to light Google’s initial investment in Ripple during the company’s early stages.
The revelation came about when Ashley Prosper, a member of the XRP community, sought information about potential collaborations between Ripple and major American tech and financial giants such as Amazon and Google through Perplexity.
Of particular interest was Prosper’s inquiry into any potential partnership between Ripple and Amazon, especially after reports emerged confirming that Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon, had invested in Perplexity through his investment firm Bezos Expeditions.
Perplexity hinted at the possibility of a partnership between Ripple and Amazon, suggesting that Amazon could potentially utilize Ripple’s technology to streamline its payment systems, enhance supply chain management, and expand globally.
Despite the promising prospects, there is currently no concrete evidence of such a partnership. In fact, previous reports erroneously indicated that Amazon was collaborating with Ripple to utilize XRP for payments, based on information found on an Amazon AWS Partner Profile page highlighting Ripple’s use of Amazon’s AWS services.
In a separate query, Prosper also asked Perplexity about Google’s investment in Ripple. Confirming this, Perplexity revealed that Google had indeed invested in Ripple during its early days. This investment, along with additional funding from global banking giants, helped Ripple secure a total of $93 million by September 2016.
Although Ripple had established partnerships with several major global banks at that time, there have been no significant developments between Google and Ripple since then, despite ongoing speculation. Rumors from the previous year suggesting Google’s involvement with the XRPL were promptly debunked by The Crypto Basic.
The only recent noteworthy development involving Google and the XRPL ecosystem was Google Cloud’s participation in the Flare Network as an infrastructure provider and contributor to the FTSO.
