Japanese financial giant and Ripple partner SBI has initiated the minting of XRPL-based NFTs in preparation for the 2025 World Expo in Japan, producing 920 unique collectibles.
SBI Holdings has started creating non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for the upcoming 2025 World Expo in Osaka, Japan. This initiative follows the company’s announcement six months ago about launching the “EXPO 2025 Digital Wallet NFT” service.
### SBI Mints 920 XRPL-based NFTs
Emi Yoshikawa, Ripple’s VP for Strategic Initiatives, highlighted this development in a post on X, referring to an official update from SBI VC Trade, the cryptocurrency exchange arm of SBI Holdings. Yoshikawa emphasized the availability of on-chain data, enabling network participants to monitor the minting process live.
According to data from XRPL explorer Bithomp, the company has successfully minted 920 NFTs. Notably, 908 of these collectibles were created on July 1, marking significant progress in the project.
### Myakoon Project and Initial NFT Distribution
SBI provided additional details in a press release today. The project, named Myakoon, aims to offer unique digital collectibles to World Expo attendees. The first 5,000 visitors will receive these NFTs as part of a commemorative initiative.
### Details of the SBI NFT Project
The press release outlines that the NFT project aims to engage both virtual and physical participants at the Expo, offering them the chance to collect and create exclusive NFTs. SBI Holdings is leading this project in collaboration with its subsidiaries, SBI VC Trade and SBINFT.
The Myakoon service is integrated with the EXPO 2025 Digital Wallet, allowing users to collect and view their NFTs on a dedicated platform. Participants can earn these digital collectibles by participating in various Expo activities, both offline and online. These NFTs are non-transferable and non-resellable, ensuring their uniqueness for each user.
Myakoon enables users to collect and create NFTs. Users can gather NFTs by participating in campaigns and selecting original images based on their status in the reward program. Higher status in the program grants access to rarer images. Additionally, users can create their own NFTs by uploading chosen images, making the experience accessible even to newcomers to the NFT space.
To celebrate the launch of Myakoon, SBI is conducting several campaigns. The initial campaign will distribute special NFTs to the first 5,000 users. Moreover, the company has introduced a gift campaign that offers luxurious prizes to those who purchase Expo tickets.
### The 2025 World Expo in Japan
Additionally, adult customers who buy Expo tickets will receive “Myakupe,” digital assets usable for transactions both within and outside the Expo site, along with Myakoon NFTs. The Expo, scheduled to take place from April 13 to October 13 next year, is expected to attract over 28 million visitors, providing a vast audience for this digital wallet service. This endeavor comes nearly two years after the XRPL enabled NFT functionality with the implementation of XLS-20D in August 2022, which has since seen the growth of the XRPL NFT ecosystem.
